BOT

Sunnynook is fortunate to have a hardworking and supportive Board of Trustees. Elections are held every three years. The role of the Board is to govern the school in accordance with Acts of Parliament and the School Charter. The Board works together with the School Principal and staff to develop school policies.
Board of Trustee meetings are held monthly and are public meetings. Dates of the scheduled meetings are advertised in the school newsletters.
Board information and minutes of meetings are available in a folder held in the School Foyer.

The Board of Trustees (BOT) is a partnership consisting of committed community members, Mr Mulcahy and Ms Findlay-Clarke who represent the teachers.  The BOT is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the school and ensuring our school is an excellent learning environment for all students.

The BOT plays a vital role in providing quality education. Certain legal obligations are required such as reviewing and updating the school charter and strategic plans, policy review and development, asset management including finance and property and health and safety compliance.

New Board members are supported and encouraged to attend education sessions to develop their skills in effective governance. Each Board member has a three year term. Meetings are monthly for approximately three hours. These meetings adhere to a formal format, although delivered in a casual and supportive manner.

Two positions are currently available on the BOT.  This is a rewarding and valued experience and an opportunity to help create learning environments where children can flourish.   Would you be interested in contributing to our school at this level? If you have any questions, please contact Peter Mulcahy (449-3000) or the BOT Chairman Phil Unsworth (027 274 7336).

Phil Unsworth (Chairperson)

I have worked in Telecom New Zealand for 25 years in a range of roles from sales, to HR and operational management.  My current position is as Situation Manger which effectively means I am responsible to prepare for and co-ordinate companywide activities during a technical, physical or commercial crisis.

I have been on the Sunnynook BOT since May 2009, and was the Treasurer until this year when I was fortunate enough to be nominated by the Board to be its Chairperson.  This role is in place to provide structure to the governance of Sunnynook School, and to work with the Principal and BOT to agree on the School objectives.  As a parent representative of the BOT I understand that we are there to be your representatives, and I am always available to receive feedback on any School items you would like to discuss.

I have strong personal values and will not hesitate to speak out when I think something needs to be said, however I also understand that the role of the BOT is to provide guidance and direction, and that we must let the Principal and his senior staff get on with the day to day running of our School.

I have three children, Tia who attended Sunnynook School from 1999 to 2005, Jodie from 2005 to 2011 and Alex who will be attending in 2015.

 Scott Lunny (Treasurer)

I am a Chartered Accountant with over fourteen years experience in the financial services industry in New Zealand and the UK. Currently I am the Financial Controller of an NZX-listed property company which owns a variety of retail, industrial and commercial properties throughout New Zealand.

My wife Mary and I have had in involvement with Sunnynook School since 2003 when our eldest daughter Jessica enrolled in the school. Jessica has moved on to Rangitoto College now and our younger children, Emma and Mark, are currently in years 5 & 2 respectively.

I have always taken a strong interest in my children’s education and am proud to be Treasurer on the Sunnynook School Board of Trustees.
