As advised in our Hero post last Thursday, we farewell three of our long serving staff members at the end of the school year; Rachael Sole, Rachael Findlay-Clarke and Rhonda Taylor. I would like to take this opportunity to again thank them for the significant contributions they have each made to Sunnynook.

 

We have had an increase in COVID-19 cases within our school community over the last few weeks. As always, the wellbeing of you and your whanau comes first. Please continue to be vigilant and look after yourselves, and if your children are displaying symptoms, please keep them at home and have them tested.

 

A reminder that our school year at Sunnynook finishes on Friday the 16th of December at 12:30 pm. Our first day back in 2023 is Wednesday the 1st of February; this is where families each get a 10 minute slot to meet their child’s new teacher for 2023. There will be a link sent in our final newsletter of the year for you to book your time. Please ensure you have this date in your diaries. First day of regular classes will be on Thursday 2nd February.

 

After such a disrupted few years, it has been lovely seeing our tamariki involved in so many events during Term 4. Catch up on the latest news and results in the various articles below. Thank you as always for your attendance and support of our tamariki at these events. I look forward to seeing many of you at our Final Assembly on Wednesday 14 December. This takes place under our shade structure starting at 9:15 am. You are all invited. We expect this to finish by 10.30 am.

This week we welcome Mrs Shelley Roschmann to our Sunnynook whānau. Shelley has been appointed as our new School Secretary and joins our Administration team. Please take the opportunity to introduce yourself when you see her.

During Week 6, students were given the opportunity to showcase their talents during two lunchtime performances of 'Sunnynook's Got Talent'. 

Here are just a few of our performers.      Congratulations to all of those who took part - what fabulous entertainers you all were!     

The Travelwise Team attended the Auckland Transport Award Celebration Event on Tuesday the 8th of November 2022 at the Cloud in Auckland CBD.

The students participated in carnival activities organised by Auckland Transport and NZ Police for the first part of the day. After lunch, we explored Queens Wharf to Wynyard Quarter finding the answers to fun scavenger hunt questions. We took photos with our team at each answer. 

The Travelwise leaders were very proud to receive the GOLD Certificate for our commitment throughout the year as a Travelwise school.

School Banner: The class receiving the banner worked really hard towards Market Day. They have some wonderful taniwha art, aboriginal art and have drawn country flags with facts on the back. They have also been finding out about the water cycle. The class receiving the banner this week is Ruma toru (Room 3).

YUMMY APPLE STICKERS
A huge thank you to all students and families who have collected Yummy Fruit stickers and cutouts over the last 12 months. During 2022, 122 full sheets of stickers were collected and this raised $1541.00 to spend on sports gear for our school. The school would like to thank the PTA - especially Haylie Stewart for coordinating this promotion. 

Reminder for 2023 - please keep sending your child’s completed sheets to the school as this promotion is continuing this year. The gear is used within the school across all classes - so everyone benefits! For new sticker collection sheets, please pick up from the school reception or print from www.yummyfruit.co.nz

UNIFORM DONATIONS NEEDED!! 

As we come to the end of another school year the PTA would love it if you could kindly donate your child’s outgrown uniforms to them. 

The PTA run secondhand uniform sales throughout the school year and rely on donations of uniforms. All money raised from the sales goes back to the school. We greatly appreciate the donations. (Uniforms need to be in good used condition - no tears, rips or holes and no big stains.).’

Our Year 4-6 Athletics day was held on Thursday 17 November.Sunnynook Primary Y4-6 Athletics Day was held on Thursday 17 November. 

Due to the rainy weather, the day started earlier than anticipated. Students competed  in their track events and participated in a fun athletics rotation. A fun morning was had by all students. 

Thank you to our parent helpers and Sunnynook staff, who persevered through the rain. Your help is much appreciated .

From Term 4 onwards our main form of communication with you - our school community, will be via Hero. On the Hero app, the little bell icon at the top right of your screen shows whether you have any new notifications. 

At times if the post is a longer one you may need to click ‘read more’ to view the whole message. We would appreciate it if you could also use Hero to report absences.

We kindly ask that all clothing, lunch boxes and drink bottles are clearly named. Lost property is collected and stored in the yellow bins in the hall and returned to its owner if named. Parents are welcome to check the lost property throughout the term. Please sign in at the main office before doing so.

Help Needed
As a community we all need to work together to ensure the safety of our children. We are still seeking the support of parent volunteers to help supervise the crossing on Tonkin Drive on Thursday mornings from 8:15 am - 8:45 am.

If you are available to volunteer, please contact Mrs Bassett-Smith on rebeccahb@sunnynookschool.nz. Your support as always will be appreciated.

If your child is turning 5 within the next 12 months, please complete the online enrolment application - available on our website. Please also encourage any new ‘in zone’ families to enrol their children as this helps us with future planning.

A friendly reminder that we are currently planning for the 2023 school year and would appreciate it if you could please let us know as soon as possible if your child/ren will not be attending Sunnynook next year. 

Late - Students who arrive after 8:50am need to report to the office via the student entrance for their late pass before going to class.

Absences - If your child is going to be absent from school, please inform the school office every day that your child is going to be absent by either phoning 410 6534 option 1, via the Hero app or via our website. If possible, please inform the school office before 9:00 am.

Hat Orders
Our school is a SunSmart School and hat-wearing is compulsory for Term 4 and Term 1. A reminder to place your hat orders as soon as possible. You can place your orders with Argyle Uniforms here or purchase one from the school offic

It has been wonderful to see the multiple opportunities for both kaiako and ākonga to connect with each other over the year. We look forward to many more in the coming year.
