Principal's Message
Tēnā koutou Parents / Caregivers / Sunnynook Whānau,
This Friday marks the beginning of Easter and is an important celebration in the Christian religion. Chocolate, hot-cross buns and eggs are usually associated with Easter but in Germany they also eat pretzels, as the twists resemble arms crossing in prayer. I set a challenge for the children at assembly to find out where painting and decorating the eggs originated from! The Cadbury Creme Egg is the most popular egg-shaped chocolate in the world, and their factory in Birmingham produces 1.5 million Creme Eggs every day!
Feedback from our staff from the Parent Teacher Interviews has been very positive. It was good to see how many caregivers were able to attend on the evening. If you were unable to come, please feel free to email your child’s teacher instead to make a time to discuss your child’s progress.
It has also been fantastic to see the number of students participating in our Travelwise Tree by walking, scootering or cycling to school. Physical activity is important for the well-being of students and is an especially good start to the day as they are alert and ready for their lessons and I would encourage your children to continue being Travelwise!
On Thursday, 4th April, we will be holding a Better Start to Literacy Approach (BSLA) workshop for our Y1 whānau from 5.00-6.00pm. Please join us to find out more about this successful programme we run in school.
As a reminder, school will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday (29 March, 1 and 2 April). I wish you all a safe and happy Easter and look forward to seeing our tamariki back at school next Wednesday.
Ngā mihi
Virginia
