Message from Virginia Montague - Principal|Tumuaki
Tēnā koutou Parents, Caregivers and Sunnynook Whānau,
It has been a busy few weeks since our last newsletter. We have held our Music Extravaganza Event which was a huge success and showcased the talent of our tamariki so beautifully! A special thank you to Leigh Humphries who has been working tirelessly with our students to create such a polished performance.

Unfortunately the weather gods were not kind to us, and our Junior Athletics event was cancelled yesterday. Our tamariki had lots of fun on our covered courts however with other activities the team put together for them.
To all our Year 6 students - you have been a wonderful group of students who have been such positive role models to our younger students in school. We will miss you all but know that you will continue to be confident, kind and valued members at your next kura.
This morning we had our Final Assembly and I would like to congratulate all the certificate and cup holders - well done to you all! If you were unable to come to the final assembly, their names can be found later in the newsletter. Next week we farewell our Year 6 students at our Graduation Dinner. It is always a sad time saying goodbye, but many of them will be continuing their education at Wairau Intermediate school so we still expect to see them in the neighbourhood. I would also like to thank Gareth Crowhurst for his tech-expertise for our Final Assembly - this went ahead without any complications or technical problems, so that parents and caregivers could hear the performances and awards.
I would like to thank our Board of Trustees led by Jason Alexander who has supported me as Principal throughout the year. To Steve McCracken, Darius Witana, Michelle Pou, Soriya Em and our staff trustee Sei Tereora, THANK YOU! Our school is in a good place. It is well resourced, and has a very strong positive culture with a focus on teaching and learning, staff well-being and community engagement.

Thank you as well to Jenni Fox and our hard-working PTA for their support throughout the year. The PTA have donated $10,000 to our school which helps us to provide resources and equipment for our tamariki to enjoy. I would also like to thank Amanda Clark who has been the PTA treasurer for 5 years, and Haylie Stewart who has been our fantastic Yummy Apple sticker promoter!
Next Tuesday is our last day of school and will be a Mufti Day where children come in their casual clothes - no gold coin. REMEMBER: School closes at 12.30 on this day.
We will be welcoming four new staff members next year and I have asked each of them to write a message to our community. You will find their profiles and photos in the newsletter.
Please make sure you have booked a time on Hero to Meet The Teacher next year.
Please also keep a note of the important first days back at school as follows:
